Bat Mitzvah Group Volunteers at Yad Leah

In preparation for their week-long trip to Israel, Rebbetzin Michal Zahtz brought a group of 30 mothers, daughters and grandmothers from Congregation B’nai Yeshurun (CBY) in Teaneck to the Yad Leah Volunteer Center in Passaic. The group participated in the 90-minute Pack-for-Israel Experience, where they sorted and packed over 600 items of clothing for families in need in Israel. Throughout the experience, they were able to see their ability to make a difference in the lives of their brothers and sisters across the ocean.

But their impact didn’t stop there.

Over Thanksgiving weekend during their time in Israel, the CBY group visited the Yad Leah Gemach thrift shop in Kiryat Arba, one of 23 Yad Leah Gemach thrift shops across Israel. There, they realized the deep impact of their earlier donations back in New Jersey as they saw clothing, similar to what they had packed in their home state, displayed on shelves and racks. These goods would then be distributed with dignity to local mothers and families in need.

The group also participated in a new program, creating Kesher Kits. The group brought with them new baby clothing and accessories, and while in the Kiryat Arba Gemach, they lovingly wrapped the items in cellophane and tied them with beautiful bows before they were gifted to new mothers in need.

The CBY group was inspired by the stories of the community members in Kiryat Arba and of how their donations were making a difference in the lives of local mothers and families. They were grateful for the opportunity to be part of a multigenerational volunteer effort.

Thanks to Rebbetzin Michal Zahtz and the mothers, daughters and grandmothers of CBY for their amazing work as volunteers and their dedication to helping those in need. Their efforts are truly appreciated and are everlasting.
